Public holidays in Sweden can be divided into Christian and non-Christian holidays. An official holiday is sometimes referred to as “red day” and it is quite common for some businesses to close at noon the day before certain holidays.

May 1, 2016, Friday – Labour Day
May 5, 2016, Thursday – Ascension Day ( 40 days after Easter)
May 15, 2016, Sunday – Whit Sunday
May 16, 2016, Monday – Whit Monday
June 6, 2016, Monday – National Day ( Sveriges nationaldag)
June 24, 2016, Friday – Midsummer Eve ( Midsommarafton, not a public holiday)
June 25, 2016, Saturday – Midsummer Day ( Midsommardagen)
November 5, 2016, Saturday – All Saints Day ( Saturday between October 31 and November 6)
December 25, 2016, Sunday – Christmas Day ( Juldagen)

December 31, 2016, Saturday – New Year’s Eve (not a public holiday)

Most governmental organizations and commercial companies in Sweden are closed on Midsummer’s Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. This applies to shops, banks, museums and some restaurants.
